PortugalEdge: Live Detection by Distillation
PortugalEdge: Live Detection by Distillation: a project by Alexander Frings (2026), in the Applied AI family.
Detect, live and at over 30 frames per second, only the Portugal players in a match. A large vision-language model, slow but able to understand “the ones in red shirts”, acts as the teacher: it labels examples with no manual work and is fine-tuned with LoRA so it stops confusing Portugal with Colombia. A small, fast detector acts as the student, and is what runs at the edge. Own project, June and July 2026.
